Mike Hess Brewing’s Imperial Beach Biergarten sits mere steps from the shore in the southernmost reach of San Diego’s county. The venue focuses on open-air beer garden culture - outdoor picnic tables, lawn games, and surf breeze - all combined with culinary offerings from its kitchen and an affiliation with City Tacos. Its beach-proximate location gives it a casual, sunlit charm that feels uniquely coastal. It earned our recommendation among San Diego brewpubs for marrying its core brewing pedigree with an approachable social atmosphere. The beer program leans into Hess’s flagship styles - especially its tropical, hazy IPAs - while the food menu spans tacos and sharables. Large groups, dogs, and locals alike appreciate the walk-up approach, rotating events, and relaxed indoor-outdoor flow.
